TRACK BACKGROUND

Raasta is my dance to confusion, my laugh at sadness, my empathy towards insanity, my patience in my chaos, and my answer to the self-doubting Sommaiya. Rick Rubin said I could doubt my way to excellence and that’s what I am doing. I doubt my work, I make it the best thing people hear today, and I continue living the life of an artist. Artistry is neither a skill, nor a part of a craft, nor a thought process. It’s a way of living. Living as a sensitive vulnerable soul who is willing to be as accepting as possible. I hope I am able to give back to the idea that my consciousness planted in me. I try and I always succeed in some way and fail in another. It’s not about that though. My art reflects in the way I live and Raasta presents you with a part of my journey. It’s the way I see crossroads in life, it’s the way I romanticize pain, and it’s a hope that this song would be played in clubs back in my home city. The sound palette of Raasta includes digital synths, house-clubby synth kicks that’d hit you as hard as your last breakup, samples from one of my favorite 60s Bollywood songs, funky guitar melodic lines, introspective ambient spaces, and the voices of 3 talented artists other than mine. I often wanted the close people in my life to appreciate my art but fortunately or unfortunately, most of them don’t understand what I do. And it’s fine. I don’t have to make music for anyone who doesn’t understand it anyway. But Raasta is a track that even my mom vibes to. I made my dad read the lyrics of the song and he was super impressed. For once, I could feel that it was not impossible to make others understand me.
